Google Invests $200M In EDF Developed Wind Project
San Diego-based renewable energy developer EDF Renewable Energy gained a big new partner Wednesday: Google, after Google said it invested $200M in equity in a wind farm in West Texas. Google said it made the investment in the Spinning Spur Wind Project, in Oldham County, Texas, which was built by EDF Renewable Energy. Google said that Spnning Spur joins 10 other renewable energy investments it has made since 2010. The wind project has a capacity of 161 megawatts, or enough to power more than 60,000 U.S. homes. EDF started construction on Spinning Spur in June of 2012, and the firm says the project went into operation in December of 2012.
