Netflix Offers $1M For Better Recommendations
Los Gatos-based Netflix is dangling a $1M prize to the software developer who can improve the firm's movie recommendation system, the company announced today. Netflix said that is is releasing a database of 100 million anonymous movie ratings and offering the prize in hopes of improving the accuracy of its movie recommendation services by 10%. The company also said that it will also offer a $50,000 progress prize if no one wins the grand prize this year. The competition is open to anyone except Netflix employees, families, and company affiliates.
