VC Fundraising Slows In Q1

Thomson Financial and the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) reported Monday morning that venture capital activity has slowed in the first quarter. According to the groups, fifty six venture capital funds raised $4.9B in Q1 of 2007. The amount was at the lowest level for an opening quarter since 2004, with the amount raised a 25.7% decline from the first quarter of last year. However, the amount raised was still 19.5% more than Q4 of 2006, when 56 funds raised $4.1B in commitments. The largest fund close in the quarter was for MP BioVentures IV with $550M, followed by Venrock Associates V at $528M in commitments.
