Avanex Buys Transponder Line

Fremoint-based Avanex Corporation, a provider of photonic components for the optical networking market, said today that it has acquired the assets of the 300-pin transponder and XFP transceiver businesses of the Commercial Communication Products Division (CCPD) of Essex Corporation, a subsidiary of Northrop Grumman. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Avanex acquires CCPD's Melbourne, Florida design team as part of the acquisition. Avanex will integrate the product line into its portfolio, and said it expects to have the products in general availability by the end of the year.
