SGI Buys Linux Networx, Gets Investment

Sunnyvale-based SGI said Thursday afternoon that it has acquired Linux Networx, a provider of clustered, high performance computing (HPC) technology. According to SGI, in addition to acquiring the core assets of Linux Networx, the firm has received an investment from Oak Investment Partners and Lehman Brothers. Amount of the investment was not disclosed. SGI said that the Linux Networx deal gives it software and several patents in the areas of cluster design, power and cooling and overall cluster optimization, along with key personnel from the firm.
