Report: Apple Buys PA Semi For $278M

Forbes reported late Tuesday evening that Apple Computer has agreed to buy PA Semi, a firm which designs low power microprocessors. Santa Clara-based PA Semi's chips are designed for the embedded computing market. According to the report, the deal was worth $278M in cash. P.A. Semi is headed by Dan Dobberpuhl, who was the lead designer of Digital's Alpha and StrongARM microprocessors. P.A. Semi is venture backed by Bessemer Venture Partners, Focus Ventures, Highland Capital Partners, Silicon Valley Bank, and Venrock Associates.
