Intel To Invest $120M In Math And Science Education

Intel Corporation said this morning that it is committing $120M over the next 10 years to stimulate interest among youth in math and science. According to Intel, the funding will come from the Intel Foundation, and will go towards the Intel Science Talent Search and Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. The science fair effort is run by the Society for Science & the Public. According to Intel, the funding will go towards getting more young people involved in science competitions. Intel said that only 19 states had finalists participate in 2008. The Society for Science & the Public is a nonprofit which has been running the prestigious Science Talent Search since 1942. Intel took over sponsoring the science contest--which started in 1942 as the Westinghouse Science Talent Search--in 1998, after CBS bought Westinghouse and terminated its relationship with the nonprofit.
