Symantec's Thompson To Retire

Cupertino-based Symantec said Monday night that John W. Thompson, the firm's Chairman and CEO, will retire as CEO at the end of the fiscal year. Enrique T. Salem will be appointed Chief Operating Officer, President, and CEO to replace Thompson. Thompson will remain on the board as Chairman, with Salem also joining. Salem has been Chief Operating Officer of Symantec since January, and has been at the firm since 2004, also serving at Brightmail, Oblix, and Ask Jeeves. Salem had also earlier served at Symantec when the firm acquired Peter Norton Computing.
