Coghead Shuts Doors
Menlo Park-based Coghead, which operated a service that allowed users to create web-based software applications, has shut down, according to an email sent to the firm's users. According to that email, the firm is discontinuing its operations, due to "economic conditions." The shutdown shines a light on the risk of web-based application development platforms: the firm's web-based software tied its users into Coghead's software, running on Amazon.com's cloud computing platform, and leaves its users without support or a way to run their applications. Coghead was backed by funding from American Capital Strategies, El Dorado Ventures, and SAP Ventures.
