Trident Microsystems Buys Product Lines From Micronas

Santa Clara-based Trident Microsystems, a developer of semiconductors for the digital TV market, said late Thursday that it has acquired three product lines from MIcronas Semiconductor Holdings AG. Trident said that it has acquired the aseets of Micronas' frame rate converter (FRC), demodulator and audio product lines, in exchange for 7.0 million shares of its common stock and warrants for up to 3.0 million additional Trident shares. At Trident's closing price Thursday, the deal was worth approximately $14.3M. As part of the acquisition, Trident said it will add around 150 employees, and will open up new design centers in Munich and Freiburg, Germany and Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Trident was advised by Union Square Advisors LLC, DLA Piper LLP, and Schellenberg Wittmer in the deal.
