Google Launches Chrome OS

Mountain View-based Google said late Tuesday evening that the firm has entered into the operating system market, and is lauching a new project focused on open source, lightweight operating systems. According to Google, its new OS, Google Chrome OS, will initially target netbooks, and will take Google's Chrome browser running natively on x86 and ARM based netbooks. The firm said that the software will take Google Chrome, and run it within a new windowing system on top of a Linux kernel, and use web based applications as the basis of the OS. The new OS will be available in the second half of 2010. Google explained that "speed, simplicity, and security" are the key aspects of the new OS.
