Intel Capital Sets Sight On Cleantech

Intel Capital is setting its sights on the clean technology market, saying Wednesday that the firm has invested a total of $10M in five clean technology related firms. Intel said it invested in CPower, a provider of demand response and energy efficiency products; Powervation, which focuses on digital power control; Convey Computer, in the energy efficient high performance computing space; Grid Net, providing smart meter infrastructure, and iControl, focused on home automation and monitoring. The venture arm of Intel said the investments are part of a "significant commitment" to invest in the cleantech sector. The firm also said it is looking specifically for more investments in energy efficiency, alternative power generation and storage, transportation and materials, with particular emphasis on firm's supporting its Open Energy Initiative standards efforts.
