Applied Materials Buys Semitool For $364M
Santa Clara-based Applied Materials reported this morning that it is acquiring a maker of electrochemical plating tools for the semiconductor industry, Semitool, in a deal worth $364M. Applied said it would pay $11 per share in cash in the transaction, making Semitool a business unit of its Silicon Systems Group. AMAT said the move would help the industry move to smaller form factors and faster, lower power chips.
