AlikeList Finds $5M For Local Business Guide
Sunnyvale-based AlikeList, a new startup focused on helping people find and review local businesses, said this morning that it has landed $5M in a Series A funding round. The round came from Syncom Venture Partners. Syncom's Tony Thomas and Stan Smith will both join the firm's board of directors as part of the funding. AlikeList is looking to tackle the local business reviews and recommendations market, saying that the site will help people get recommendations for contractors, doctors, restaurants, and other local businesses from friends. The new site competes against Angie's List and Insider Pages, and is similar to defunct local review site Judy's Book. AlikeList also said it has hired Mark Law, previously VP of Product Management at MapQuest, to head up product development for the firm. More information »
