Ongo Lands $12M From Newspaper Publishers

Cupertino-based Ongo, a startup developing a consumer service for reading and sharing news, has gathered $12M in initial funding from a number of publishers. According to Ongo, the new funding came from Gannett Company, The New York Times Company, and the Washington Post Company. The firm has not yet launched its service, but says it will do so before the end of the year. The firm is headed by Alex Kazim, who has previously been at eBay running its Skype subsidiary, running new ventures, and heading up marketing and business for PayPal. Kazim also has served at Apple.
