Google Backs Wind Power Effort
Mountain View-based Google said today that it is backing the development of a backbone transmission project on the East coast, focused on accelerating offshore wind development. According to Google, it is funding the Atlantic Wind Connection (AWC) backbone, being built by Trans-Elect, with additional financing from Good Energies and Marubeni Corporation. The Atlantic Wind Connection is expected to connect about 6,000MW of offshore wind turbines to the power grid--enough energy to serve approximately 1.9 million households. Google said its stake represents about 37.5 percent of the equity in the development.
