Intel Announces Billions For U.S. Factories

Santa Clara-based Intel said Tuesday that it is planning to spend $6 to $8 billion in upgrading and constructing a new fab in the U.S., in a b id to create thousands of new jobs and bolster its workforce in the country. Intel said the investments will go towards plans in Arizona and Oregon, including a new fab located in Oregon. The firm specifically said those investments will go to support its rollout of its first 22nm microprocessors, expected to be in production in late 2011. According to Intel, the investment is expected to create around 6,000 to 8,000 construction jobs, and 800-1,000 permanent high tech jobs.
