Atheros Acquired By Qualcomm For $3.1 Billion
San Jose-based networking equipment maker Atheros has been acquired by mobile phone technology firm Qualcomm, in a deal worth $3.1 billion. According to Qualcomm, it is acquiring Atheros for $45 per share in cash, for an enterprise value of $3.1 billion, in a bid to expand its technologies and platforms beyond the cellular phone market. Qualcomm said that Atheros President and CEO Dr. Craig H. Barratt, is expected to become president of Qualcomm Networking & Connectivity as part of the acquisition.
