Autodesk Buys Avatar Software Firm

San Mateo-based 3D CAD software firm Autodesk has acquired avatar creation software firm Evolver, according to details on the acquisition sent to Evolver customers by Autodesk. Financial details of the buy were not disclosed. Autodesk said that Evolver is becoming part of its Autodesk Labs effort, to complement the development of realistic, real-time human crowd simulation and other products. Evolver's 3D avatar creation software made it easy for designers and consumers to create their own, 3D avatars.
