Coursera Finds $16M For Online Education

Mountain View-based Coursera, an online education site founded by Stanford Computer Science Professors Daphne Koller and Andrew Ng, said today that it has raised $16M in a funding round. The company, which offers up free, web-based classes form major universities, said the funding came from Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and New Enterprise Associates. Coursera offers up free classes from such institutions as Princeton University, Stanford University, the University of Michigan and the University of Pennsylvania. John Doerr of KPCB and Scott Sandell off NEA join the company's board with the funding. Coursera says it is looking to make higher learning more accessible to people around the world.
