Scifiniti Finds $10M For Photovoltaic Silicon Wafers
San Jose-based Scifiniti has raised $10M in a Series B funding, to go towards its ultra low-cost, silicon wafers for the photovoltaic industry. The firm said the funding came from Alloy Ventures, Firelake Capital, I2BF Global Ventures and Peninsula Ventures. Scifinity has developed technology which it says costs less than half as much to produce than traditional, silicon wafers for photovoltaic panels. The company said its technology is based on a thin, deposited, high-quality silicon layer on a conductive substrate, offering the same form-factor as a standard wafer but specialized for photovoltaic cells.
