Oracle Pays $5.3 Billion For MICROS Systems

Oracle said today that it is in an agreement to acquire MICROS Systems, a provider of software and hardware for the hospitality and retail industry. The deal is worth around $5.3 billion. MICROS is based in Maryland. Oracle said that the two companies will continue to operate independently. MICROS has more than 6,600 employees, and was publicly traded. Oracle is paying $68 per share for MICROS.
