Intel Pays $1.5 Billion For Stake In Chinese Firms
Santa Clara-based semiconductor giant Intel Corporation said this morning that it has agreed to pay $1.5 billion for a stake in two, Chinese semiconductor companies, both of whom are owned by Tsinghua Holdings Co.. Intel said it would pay $1.6 billion (RMB 9 billion) for approximately 20 percent of Tsinghua Unigroup, giving it stakes in Spreadtrum Communications and RDA Microelectronics. Both of the companies develop chipsets for smart phones and the wireles industry.
