Apple Acquires LearnSprout

Mountain View-based Apple has acquired San Francisco-based LearnSprout, a developer of educational software for tracking student performance. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. LearnSprout was venture backed by Andreessen Horowitz and Formation 8, and had only raised around $4M in funding. LearnSprout's software offers up a dashboard used by track individual students, grades, lessons, and more on tablet PCs like the Apple iPad. The company was led by Franklyn Chien.
