Google Applies Software To The Age Old Problem Of Photo Scanning
For those who have photos before the advent of digital photography, getting those photographs into your phone or computer has meant expensive hardware, lots of time, and difficulty editing out dust, glare, and other issues out of those photos. Google has just applied its software chops to the problem, with a new app called PhotoScan. Google said it is using "computational photography" which combines multiple captures of a photo to eliminate that glare, dust, and other issues to bring those old photos into the digital world. The new software is free, and runs on both Android and iOS; photos are automatically imported into Google Photos.
