Avast Buys Piriform
Redwood City-based Avast, which develops cybersecurity software, said this morning that it has acquired Piriform, a developer of device performance optimization software. Financial details of the deal were not announced. Piriform develops CCleaner, a software product which removed unwanted and unused apps and data from both PCs and smartphones. Piriform was based in London, and according to Avast it is being used by more than 130 million people. Avast said it will continue to maintain Avast's CCCleaner brand of products. Piriform's team will become part of Avast's consumer business unit.
