Semantic Machines Acquired By Microsoft

Berkeley-based Semantic Machines, a startup which is developing conversational artificial intelligence (AI) tools, has been acquired by Microsoft, Microsoft announced over the weekend. Financial details of the acquisition were not announced. The startup was founded by Dan Roth, plus UC Berkeley professor Dan Klein and Stanford University professor Percy Liang, as well as former Apple chief speech scientist Larry Gillick. Microsoft said the buy will help it "advanced the state of conversational AI."
