Zamzee, With Backing From Omidyar, Takes On Teen Physical Activity
Redwood City-based HopeLab, the nonprofit research and development group headed by Omidyar Network and eBay co-founder Pam Omidyar, said today that it has launched a new, for-profit company called Zamzee Co.. According to HopeLab, Zamzee is creating a new, online rewards program tied into the "Zamzee" meter, an internet-connected accelerometer device which measures the physical activity of teens. The device, online service, and the virtual currency earned through activities is geared at increasing physical activities in young teens, and towards fighting sedentary behavior. The new service is expected to go into limited beta in the firs thalf of 2011, and is backed by $1M in equity funding from HopeLab. More information »
