Carmenta Bioscience Acquired By Progenity

Palo Alto-based Carmenta Bioscience, which is developing diagnostics tools to detect preclampsia, has been acquired by Progenity, a molecular and specialized diagnostic testing services. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Progenity is based in San Diego, California. Carmenta CEO Matthew Coope, Ph.D., has become Chief Scientific Officer of Progenity. Carmenta's backers include the Life Science Angels. The company's technology is based on technology licensed from Stanford University by the company's co-founders, Dr. Atul Butte and Dr. Bruce Ling.
