Second Life Adds ID Verification
San Francisco-based Linden Lab said today that it has added new identification tools for its popular Second Life virtual world. The firm said that it has added a new, voluntary system which allows users of the site to restrict access to content; the firm said that the system is part of an effort to ensure that minors do not gain access to restricted content intended for users aged 18 and over. Linden is tapping technology from Aristotle for the identity verification feature; that feature requires such identifying information as a driver's license number, passport, or national ID card number, or the last four digits of a social security number to validate identity.
