Cleantech Investments Grow 18 Percent In Q1

A report released yesterday by Ernst & Young, based on data from Dow Jones VentureOne, reports that clean technology investments continued to see robust growth in Q1. According to data released Thursday, investments in the cleantech space grew to $571.6M in Q1 of 2008, up from $483.9M in the same period in 2007. According to Ernst & Young, the segment growth bucked the overall drop in venture capital investments last quarter. The most active segment of the cleantech industry was alternative fuels, which E&Y reported had $178M invested for the quarter. Energy/Electricity had $148.3M in deals, and energy efficiency 20% of the investment. Clean technology now totals 8% of the annual total U.S. venture capital investment.
