Microsoft Live Search Books Shuts Down

Microsoft handed over the book scanning and indexing world to Google Books Friday, saying that it is ending its Live Search Books and Live Search Academics projects. The firm said in its Live Search blog that the shift comes as it looks to focus on vertical with high commercial intent, and to develop an underlying, sustainable business model for the search engine and its consumers and partners. Microsoft Live Search Books was a response to Google's launch of its own book scanning and indexing project, Google Books, in 2005.
