Medpedia Creates Online Medical Encyclopedia

San Francisco-based The Medpedia Project has launched an effort to create an online, collaborate encyclopedia focused on medicine. According to the project, the new site, Medpedia, will focus on creating a comprehensive medical clearinghouse on health, medicine, and the body. A preview of the site has launched today, with launch at the end of the year. The new site includes contributions from Harvard Medical School, Stanford School of Medicine, the University of California Berkeley School of Public Health, the University of Michigan Medical School and others. The new site is being funded by Oogla Labs, and will run off of the GPL Mediawiki software, which is also used for Wikipedia. According to Medpedia, the editors of the site must be licensed medical professionals and organizations, including qualified M.D.s, biomedical research Ph.D.s, and clinicians.
