Applied Materials Taps SunPower For Solar Install

Sunnyvale-based Applied Materials and San Jose-based SunPower said today that SunPower has installed 2.1 megawatts of solar power systems at AMAT's corporate facilities. According to the firms, the deployment is the largest solar power deployment at a corporate facility in the United States. The biggest install prior to AMAT's was at Google, which installed 1.6 megawatts of capacity. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. According to SunPower and Applied Materials, the first phase of the install was in November of 2007. SunPower is a manufacturer of solar power systems; Applied Materials is also in the solar business, with its own efforts to supply equipment to the photovoltaics market. Interestingly enough, Applied Materials' equipment is being used by competitor of SunPower on their thin-film solar efforts.
