BigTent Debuts Group Site

San Francisco-based BigTent, a firm focused on creating online sites for parent clubs, schools, church groups, and other community groups, said Wednesday that it has launched its site to the general public. The firm, which is venture backed by Menlo Ventures and Mohr Davidow Ventures, said it would provide membership management, discussion forums, calendars, event planning, and other tools for real world groups. The firm was founded by Laney Whitcanack; Nancy Schoendorf of Mohr Davidow is on the board, as is Menlo Ventures' Sonja Hoel Perkins. The service is free to groups and members, and supported by advertising and sponsorship.
