Meru Adds Virtual WLANs
Sunnyvale-based Meru Networks, a wireless hardware firm backed by BlueStream Ventures, Clearstone Venture Partners, D.E. Shaw, Evercore, JumpStartup, Lehman Brothers Venture Partners, and NeoCarta Ventures, said Monday that it has added new "virtual" WLAN capablity to its products. The firm said that the new capability provides every WiFi client device on a network with its own "dedicated" virtual wireless network. According to the firm, the new features raises WLAN performance and reliability. Meru Networks explained that its technology provides a unique WLAN--via a dedicated SSID-- for each user device on a network, and allows virtual cells to be partitioned into multiple virtual WLANs.
