Semiconductor Sales Drop In October
The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) is reporting that worldwide semiconductor sales declined by 2.4 percent in October, down to $22.5 billion versus $23.0 billion in the prior year. According to the group, the slowdown in October first became evident in September. The industry group said that it expects the worldwide financial turmoil to continue to impact demand for semiconductors in 2009, and estimates a 5 percent decline in PC unit shipments, and 9 percent drop in cell phone unit shipments--both key sectors for semiconductor demand.
