Green Investments Total $2.5B In Q4

Online media firm Greentech Media, which follows the renewable energy and clean technology industries, is reporting today that venture capital investment in the green technology area exceeded $2.5 billion in Q4 of last year, bringing the year's total investment in cleantech to $7.7 billion. The amount was a slight decrease from Q3, when $2.9 billion was invested in the space. Among highlights of the firm's report: solar technology was the most popular area in clean technology, with $1.3B in 29 venture capital rounds; biofuels received $350M in venture capital; and wind third with $218M in funding and 5 deals. The firm predicted 2009 to be the year of smart grid, energy storage, and energy efficiency.
