Cisco Buys Energy Efficiency Software Firm

San Jose-based Cisco said today that it has acquired a firm that develops middleware for the energy efficiency market, Richards-Zeta Building Intelligence. Financial terms were not disclosed. Cisco said it acquired Richards-Zeta, which is based in Santa Barbara, California, for its middleware, which is used enables businesses to integrate building infrastructure and information technology (IT) applications over a common Internet Protocol (IP) network. The middleware is being applied to energy efficiency efforts. The company will join Cisco's Emerging Technologies Group, which is part of Bangalore-based Cisco's Globalisation Centre East.
