Clearwire Courts Silicon Valley Developers

WiMax broadband networking firm Clearwire is hoping to tap into Silicon Valley developers, saying Thursday that it is rolling out a new network specifically to give developers here access to its services. The firm--a very well funded startup headed by Craig McCaw--said it will provide its network to Google and Intel, using Cisco equipment, to help developers develop applications for its network. The new Clearwire "WiMax Innovation Network" will be available for free to developers, well ahead of a larger Bay Area network rollout for the firm scheduled for 2010. Clearwire said developers will have to register for their developer program and describe the products or business ideas they want to pursue to gain the free high speed access.
