Salesforce Launches Cloud Computing Offering
San Francisco-based Salesforce.com announced today that the firm is launching a new, cloud computing offering which will allow companies to run their web sites and web applications on its own, cloud computing platform. Salesforce said its new Force.com Sites offering allows users to create their own web sites and applications without having to maintain their own hardware or software, and includes a database, analytics, and workflow and approval tools. The new offering also includes a "free" edition, which will allow companies to create their own applications receiving up to 250,000 monthly page views for free, in addition to premium offerings. Salesforce said that sites built on the platform so far include e-commerce, recruitment, ticketing and scheduling, Facebook apps, social networking, community sites and more.
