Google Signs Up PowerMeter Partner

Mountain View-based Google has signed up a device partner for the firm's Google PowerMeter smart grid monitoring service, Energy Inc., making it possible for users to link into Google PowerMeter without having a smart meter installed by a user's utility. According to Google, the deal with Energy Inc. ties the firm's TED 5000 device into Google's in-home electricity monitoring devices, without requiring the install of a smart meter by a utility. The firm said anyone who purchases the TED 5000 can see their home energy data using Google PowerMeter. TED's devices start at $199.95.
