Trimble Buys German Firm
Sunnyvale-based Trimble said today that it has acquired the Earth Science Business of German company Definiens, in an all-cash deal. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Definiens Earth Sciences business develops image analysis software for geospatial applications from remote sensing imagery. The software is used for urban planning, forestry, agriculture, energy, insurance, and security. Trimble said the buy will complement its broad range of geospatial products and solutions. Definiens technology was developed by Nobel Laureate Prof. Gerd Binning. The unit will become part of Trimble's Engineering and Construction business.
