Twitter Plans Data Center
San Francisco-based Twitter has built its own, custom data center in Salt Lake City, which the firm plans to boot up later this year, the firm said Wednesday. According to Twitter, the new data center--the first to be operated by the firm--will allow it to have full control over its network and system configuration, and better flexibility to adjust its infrastructure. Twitter currently used outsourced, managed data centers from NTT America. According to Twitter, the move comes as it has been seeing more than 300,000 people a day signing up for new accounts on the service. The firm said the dedicated data center will give it more capacity to accommodate that growth and activity, and help it better define and manage its service levels for the service.
