SunPower Wins Arizona Air Force Base
San Jose-based SunPower Corp., a manufacturer of photovoltaic panels, said today that the firm has signed a deal with the Arizona Public Service (APS) to design and construct a 15-megawatt (AC) solar photovoltaic power system at Luke Air Force Base, in Glendale, Arizona. The firm said the installation is expected to be the largest solar power installation at a U.S. government facility, and will be installed on 101 acres of underutilized land. The solar power system is expected to generate the equivalent of 50 percent of the annual energy for the base. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed.
