N. California District Attorneys Sue Overstock.com

A group of Northern California district attorneys, from Alameda, Marin, Monterey, Napa, Santa Clara, Shasta and Sonoma counties, said Wednesday that they have taken e-commerce site Overstock.com to court over that firm's advertising practices. The district attorneys, in a lawsuit filed in Alameda County, said that Overstock.com has made "untrie and misleading claims" about pricing on the site, particularly around showing false comparisons on pricing on items. The attorneys are seeing at least $15M in fines plus restitution to customers. In a statement, overstock.com said it was unfairly being singled out for "standard industry practice" in showing price comparisons on its items, and that it "looks forward to its day in court."
