Google Shuts Buzz, Jaiku, More Services
In a continued consolidation of the multitude of projects at Google, the search engine giant said Friday that it is shutting down a number of services, including Google Buzz, Code Search, Jaiku, and its entire Google Labs site. Google said that it will shut its Code Search service--used to search for open source code--on January 15th; drop Google Buzz in favor of its new, social networking site Google+, Jaiku, another social service for sending messages to firneds, and remove the social features of iGoogle, as well as its University Research Program for Google Search, which provided an API to its search services for university researchers. Google also said that Boutiques.com and Like.com will be replaced with Google Product search. Google has been in the process of pruning a number of its ancillary services over the last year.
