Google Launches Indoor Maps
Mountain View-based Google has further extended its Google Maps product, saying this morning that it has started mapping indoor locations, via Google Maps for Android. The new feature for the Android mapping product allows users to get direction inside airports, shopping malls, and retail stores. The new mapping features are available in Google Maps 6.0 for Android. The maps include detailed floor plans, and information on where you are within a building indicated by a blue dot; the service also tracks people to the exact floor they are on in those malls or other spaces. Google said the service is available in the U.S. and Japan, in airports, transit stations, and retailers such as the Mall of America, IKEA, The Home Depot, Macy's and Bloomingdale's, Daimaru, Taskashimaya and Mitsukoshi, along with others.
