Trion Worlds Gains $85M In Strategic Funding

Redwood Shores-based Trion Worlds, which develops online games, said today that it has raised $85M in a strategic funding round. The round came from the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, as well as Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments . The firm said the funding will go to grow its premium online games business. Trion's first title is massively multiplayer online role playing game Rift, which was launched in March of last year; the firm said its North American and European revenues surpassed $100 million in 2011. Trion Worlds was founded by Lars Buttler.
