AMD Buys SeaMicro
Sunnyvale-based AMD said Wednesday that it is acquiring SeaMicro, a manufacturer of specialized, high density servers for the data center market, in a deal for $281M in cash. According to AMD, the deal will help it address the cloud data center market. SeaMicro's high density, rackmount computers integrate low power Intel Xeon processors, storage, switching, load balancing, and other features into a compact, energy efficient package. The firm had been venture backed by Crosslink Capital, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, and Khosla Ventures.
